I'm claiming my blog. I hope I'm doing this right. I hope to start blogging again, if I can figure out all of the changes that blogger has made. It was so much fun and I had a blast meeting some of my primitive online friends.
From left to right....Me, Sher, Ginger, Saundra, Betty, Pati Jane, and Robin. I've chatted with some of these ladies in a ebay group that I belong to, AAPG. It was so nice to put faces with the names and meet them all. Since this was my first hook-in, I was like a kid in a candy store. I hope I didn't scare these ladies off, with my giddyness of taking it all in. I don't think I sat down at all and I know I didn't even work on my project. There was too much to see and lots of wool to fondle.

Then I was surprised to find out that Maggie Bonanomi was there. I have all of her books and love her style. Here she is holding her project from her latest book, 'Book of Days'. That is her hubby in the background.

Here are some of the girls actually working on a project. L to R, Saundra, Pati Jane, Theresa (standing), and Betty. Betty was teaching Pati Jane how to stitch on linen.

I got to meet Theresa at the hotel the night before. We drove up and got a hotel room the night before the hook-in. This is so we didn't have to get up so early and worry about bad weather. Brett wanted to go down to the pool, so I took him down and got in the jacuzzi. I was surprised to meet 2 very fun ladies, Theresa and Reggie. I only wish we had stayed another night there, as they were all going out to dinner and hitting the jacuzzi again.

Here we have JoJo (in the pink)! It was so nice to meet her. I've chatted with her on Wool Snippets for a few years. Hi JoJo, I will get back to posting on Wool Snippets soon. Looks like Betty, JoJo, and Robin deep on conversation.
Here you can see some of the booths in the background. Lots of wool around and wonderful hooked rugs.

I have more pics of the rug show that I will post later. There were some gorgeous rugs in the show and after seeing them all you get so inspired to hook, hook, hook. I will also share pics of my goodies in the next post. I have to get them in good lighting to take a pic.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-10127187163727623902011-02-08T07:20:00.000-08:002011-02-08T07:20:10.309-08:00Winter Cheer SwapI joined my first swap! I belong to a group of primitive crafters on ebay and this past month we did a Winter Cheer Swap to help get through all of the wonderful snow we are having. This was my first experience with joining a swap and I had a ball. It was so much fun to make some goodies and search for some extra goodies to go into the package.

Our theme was Simplify. It was fun to see what everyone came up with and all of the wonderful talent in the group. Below is the rug I hooked for my swap. One of the ladies, Rebecca, designed some doodles for us to use for this swap. I also made a red heart pin tuck out of wool and found some other goodies that I sent to her.

My swap sender as Betty of Primitive Bettys fame. Here is the package I received for the swap from Betty. Betty made this wonderful penny rug from a Maggie Bonanomi pattern. I've had my eye on that pattern for awhile and was afraid to try it out. I have to tell you it is wonderful!

She also took one of the doodles that Rebecca shared with us and did the wonderful pin tuck. Her needle punch is fabulous and her finishing is wonderful. This is something that I'm wanting to work on for myself. I want to practice more of needle punch, but my finishing is where I lack. So it's nice to see in person how others have finished things. Now I'm ready to play in wools and I also shopped around for some trims to have on hand to try out. Below is a close up pic of the pin tuck. Isn't so prim and wonderful. I have a wooden dough trough that I have wanted to fill up with yummy prim things, this is my start.

She also made me an adorable heart pin out of velveteen and it has one of those rusty bells. Just makes it so prim. I love it. Awhile back, I saw a blog where the lady used a journal to plan her projects. What I liked about it, was that it had graph paper in it instead of lined paper. I started looking around for one, but only found the lined ones. How surprised was I, when I saw that she sent me a journal and it has graph paper in it. She also sent some yummy DMC colors that I will use in my needle punch. Also, I can't forget she sent some chocolate M & Ms. Thomas grabbed them first thing and kept teasing me to chase him for them. LOL

I really enjoyed my experience of my first swap and hope to join in another one. It has really helped to inspire me and now I have so many things running through my mind that I want to do.

We woke up this morning to another snow storm. It's really coming down out there now and the wind is blowing so hard. They are saying we will have 6 - 8 inches before it ends tomorrow. I hope everyone stays in and stays warm. I'm going to curl up on the couch and get a project out to work on.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-1388293082257865142011-01-05T18:15:00.000-08:002011-01-05T18:15:37.163-08:00New Header for a New YearHi everyone! Wow, can you believe it's a new year? Time just seems to get away from me. I know I keep having to apologize for not posting. I really do have intentions to post and then when I get to the computer, I forget or something comes up that I have to do. One of the things that I have been wanting to do is to learn how to edit my pics. I've seen so many blogs that have nice collages, etc and I don't have any software to edit my pics. I have a Macbook and with iPhoto, there really wasn't anything to do this with. So tonight I checked out Picassa to edit and was playing around a bit to figure it out. I made a collage of some WIP blocks and while it isn't the best, I thought I'd try it out. What photo editing software do you all use?

Also, I see so many graphics on sidebars and wonder where you all get them. I would love to make my blog enjoyable and also use it as a journal/notebook of my projects. Maybe have a WIP list on the side, some pics of my completed projects. So any tips you all can give me will be appreciated.

We went home to TN for Christmas this year. It was a nice visit, even if the drive is so long. It takes around 15 hours to get there. The boys had a good Christmas and loved being with their Grandparents. Doug surprised me with an Accuquilt Go Cutter! Now I get to play around with it. We've only been back home since Sunday, so I've had to deal with laundry, but I did play around with the circle die cutter and tried it out on wool. It cuts the wool pretty good. I just wish they would have circles in between 1" and 2", as I would prefer those sizes for penny rugs. I will have to work on taking pics and posting in a few day. I'm paying for the trip and over doing things with a fibromyalgia flare up right now. Maybe I'll work on my list of things to do in 2011.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-68496387915792980682010-11-04T17:45:00.000-07:002010-11-04T17:45:02.800-07:00Dreaming of Houston FestivalOh, how I wish I could be in Houston for the Quilt Festival. I was lucky enough to attend about 5 or 6 years ago and it was wonderful! So I've been surfing blogs to see any glimpse pics of Market and now Festival. Now I'm anxious for shops to start receiving the new things. I've called a couple of my LQS's today to see if they have the new book by Blackbird Designs. They have a new book out called Garden Club. The Country Sampler has some pics of a few of the projects in the book and I want it now!! Yes, I'm always impatient when it comes to the Blackbird Gals. Also, Congratulations to Barb and Alma, for winning the Best Booth Award this year. They do some amazing things!

I have had my follow up appt from my appendectomy and got the green light to do normal things again. However, Brett was out of school one day sick. Then I came down with a bad stomach bug. I was feeling a bit better, but tonight, it feels like I'm trying to take a back set of it. Either way, while I've had to take it easy, I've been working on Doug's Cardigan Sweater. Today, I completed the back of the sweater and am really pleased with myself to get this far. Now tomorrow, I'll CO for the front.

I can't believe it is November! Time is going by so fast now, it's scary. Here is what Thomas and I walked to school the other morning to.
You should have heard all of the noise as we walked out the door. All of these birds were in a couple of trees, as we were half way to school, they all took off. It made me think of the movie 'The Birds'. Pretty cool to see though.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-73014827893716736322010-10-18T14:22:00.000-07:002010-10-18T14:22:19.139-07:00Tummy Ache and HospitalHi Gang,

It's been an interesting weekend. I had a tummy ache on Friday and Saturday, so I laid around in bed. At midnight Saturday night, I couldn't get comfortable at all. From about 12:30 am Sunday morning til about 5:30 am, I was in constant pain and woke Doug up. We ended up going to the emergency room and I wound up in surgery for an appendectomy. I just got home today, as they kept me overnight, due to already having an infection from it. It hadn't burst yet, but they said within another 24 hours, it would have. So I'll be resting up this week. I'm not aloud to lift anything or bend, squat, etc. I have to take it easy and do a little walking each day. I just took a pain pill, so think I'll drift off to la la land for a bit.
Of course, I had to hit the shops there. I had to go to Double Cross (cross stitching shop), but found out that they have sold the shop. Not to worry though, the new owner has put the cross stitching in her Antique Shop, 3 Sisters. So I can go look at cross stitch and check out some wonderful antiques at the same time. The owner was working on a needle punch project by Brenda Gervais of With Thy Needle & Thread. So I had to buy it, as well as another one that I have had my eye on. She was working on the Boo-tiful Bouquet and it was gorgeous! The Feather Your Nest pattern has caught my eye for awhile, so I thought I'd get it. Now I haven't done much in the way of punch needle, but when you check out Brenda's designs it will make you want to learn.

Another one of my favorites is Stacy Nash. I love her primitive and simple style. She has lots of cross stitch patterns to make necessaries, and pin cushions. I found a few more of hers that I didn't have.
My Mom and I took a day to shop together. I took her to the cross stitch shop, as I knew she would love to check out the antiques. Then we hit a couple of yarn shops. I was showing her the newest Namaste Bag and she surprised me with buying it for me. Gotta love those Mom's. This is the Monroe. I also bought a skein of yummy Malabrigo Sock Yarn.

I also bought some quilt books and charm packs in TN. Then we left for Kansas and I added more quilt books and charm packs, and other things. Here in Wichita, I have a nice cross stitch shop. It's been a long time since I've lived in an area with a cross stitch shop around. So this is exciting for me. Heart's Desire is a wonderful shop and the ladies are really nice there. Their walls are covered in stitched models and that makes you want to buy more. I added more to my stitching stash there.
There are 4 quilt shops in Wichita, as well, as one in Derby. Derby is just 15 minutes down the road. So I have loads of quilt shops now. After being in Germany for 4 years and not having any quilt shops around, this is wonderful!!!! Not so much good for the ole' budget, but Doug knew that I would go a little crazy when we moved back to the States.
As you can see, I have lots to do now. Not that I didn't have a thing to work with before. But it's so much fun shopping in person again.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-73631016685294633282010-10-14T12:17:00.000-07:002010-10-14T12:25:19.101-07:00Kansas Shop HopHi Everyone! I've been MIA for a bit now with the move, but we are in Kansas and in the house. We spent a month in billeting (on base) and after about 3 weeks to a month in the house, we finally got our final shipment on Tuesday. That shipment was the things we had in storage from California. There wasn't much that we couldn't do without in that shipment, except for my washer/dryer and the microwave. I forgot what it was like to have to go to a laundromat, so I was getting very excited for this shipment to arrive. Doug says that I've got to be the only woman to get excited over a washer and dryer. LOL

We've got the boxes unpacked, but my sewing room still needs to be worked on. I say sewing room, but it's in the unfinished basement. There is lots of room though. I still need to pull the sewing machine out and get it set up, plus put a design wall up.

We got here in plenty of time for me to do the Central Kansas Quilt Shop Hop. I took all 3 days to go to all 10 quilt shops. After putting over 400 miles on my car and putting my Droid 2 to good use, I made it to all 10 shops. I, also, found a couple of yarn shops along the way too.

Here is my stash for that 3 day weekend spree. I was on the lookout for more Schnibbles patterns by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. plus Maggie Bonanomi's latest book Comfort Zone. I picked up some layer cakes and some fabrics to go with the charm packs that I had bought before. Those will go to make some Schnibbles patterns. I also lucked up at one of the shops. They had just received Jo Morton's latest fabric line, Annandale, a couple of days before the Shop Hop. They didn't have any bundles, so I just picked out fat quarters from what they had cut up already. I love this line! Can't wait to get back to my sewing room and start cutting into these fabrics.

I meant to post before now, but have been dealing with more fibromyalgia flare ups since our move here. I have a dr's appt set up for next week to see if I need to change my meds. I'm hoping we can get it figured out why I'm having more flare ups now and having more pain in general. After doing the shop hop for 3 days, I was down all of last week. There is a Yarn Shop Hop coming up at the end of the month, and I'm trying to decide if I want to tackle it or not, after seeing how the quilt shop hop took it out of me.

I have more things to share of my shopping experiences since being back in the States, but I'll save that for another post. It's good to be back in the blogging world again.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-58715847645097697692010-08-10T13:10:00.000-07:002010-08-10T13:10:17.189-07:00Transition timeHi everyone, I know it's been awhile since I've blogged. Blogging has been put on the back burner since we are moving. We are in transition now and have left Germany. Right now we are visiting family in TN, where it is very hot and humid! Eek! We've been here a week already and I'm still jet lagged. Getting things done and the house cleaned, then turned back over to housing....the flight back to the States and having to sit at the airport for 4 hours after our flight waiting on our pets. Then the drive from Atlanta to TN, has worn me out! We leave on Sunday for the drive to Kansas, so not sure how long after that it will be before we have internet, or a house. I'm sure I'll go into withdrawals with not internet, but hopefully, things will go smoothly and quickly.

I'm so ready to get back to my projects and can't wait for my sewing machine and stash to arrive. It feels like it has been so long since I've done anything crafty and it's calling to me now. I have done a little shopping here in TN. Got some quilt books and some Moda charm packs. I will have to take a pic of my new stash and post soon. I've been looking for some more of the Schnibbles patterns here, but haven't had much luck...Maybe in Kansas. I'll be back to blogging once we are settled. Hope you all will join in with me again then.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-29319532847230499692010-05-04T07:22:00.000-07:002010-05-04T07:22:59.298-07:00We're off to Kansas!I know I have been a bad blogger lately. With a move coming up and time not slowing down, I've been otherwise, occupied. We finally found out this morning where we are going to be moving to. We will be moving to McConnell AFB, Kansas. It is near Wichita, Kansas. I haven't found out much about the base or the area yet, so if anyone lives near there, let me know. I'm hoping for some quilting, stitching, rug hooking and knitting shops in the area. You know, I don't need much, just those important places. LOL Like I don't have a shop with all of my stash, already. But you know, it's nice to have shops to go to for inspiration.

School has only 7 more weeks to go here. My oldest, Brett, has a band concert tomorrow night. We just got the dog and cat fixed, and the dog has to go back to get his stitches out. I just found out that my youngest, Thomas, needs another shot (haven't told him this yet). He's a trooper though, with shots. It seems like life is catching up to me at the moment without the move in the midst.

I'm, anxiously, awaiting for new things to come out at market. I just saw Blackbird Designs new book, Country Inn, for pre-order. I have to have it and I've been waiting to see pics. I can't wait to see what all of the other designers have coming out for us. Like I need new projects. Since I will be getting things ready for packing/moving, I'll have to live through you all for awhile. I have the new Schnibbles book coming to me and can't wait for it to arrive. I just got in some charm sets for some projects from the book. Not sure I'll get to work on them before moving, but it's fun to dream about them.

I'm off to see if I can find out anything about Kansas, until next time, Happy Stitching, Quilting, Rug Hooking, and Knitting!Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-23975379470149606092010-03-01T06:49:00.000-08:002010-03-01T06:49:30.666-08:00Does anyone hand applique anymore?I used to do a lot of hand applique a few years ago. That is about all that I did, as far as quilting goes. I had a yahoo group for Primitive Folk Art Applique as well. I really enjoyed having that group and sharing my love of applique with others. I no longer have that group, as there were some problems in the background and I found that I couldn't deal with it anymore. During the last year of owning the group, I also started doing machine applique, just to keep up with everyone. After awhile, it just didn't bring me the joy that appliqueing used to. I always enjoyed hand work and found it relaxing. I think, now that I look back, that trying to get so many quilts done along with others, just isn't what I want to do. I want to get back to the basics and enjoyment of the process of hand applique. It might take me years to complete quilts, but I would enjoy making the quilt more.

I have some fabrics that I bought to do some projects from Blackbird Designs book, 'When the Cold Wind Blows'. I've been trying to decide on whether to do it by hand or machine. I think I've finally come to the conclusion that hand is the way to go for me. Since we will be moving this year, I'm going to start cutting them out and getting them ready for hand work while sitting outside this summer and also for traveling.
The first pic is of Winter Garden. I have the fabrics all ready to go for it. It's a large quilt and each block is cut 28 1/2". That is big! If anyone has any tips for cutting out such a large background block, please let me know. This next pic is of a wallhanging in the same book. It's called Frost on the Ferns.
There is also another quilt in this book that I would love to do. I don't have a pic of it taken yet, but I have pulled fabrics from my stash. It's a Christmas quilt and it's called Holly and Mistletoe. I realized this past Christmas that I don't have any quilts for Christmas, so I may have to start this one too. It's got some applique blocks and lots of pieced blocks.
I haven't been able to do too much this past weekend, as I had a major flare up of Fibromyalgia. It's still giving me problems today, but I'm hoping it will subside soon. It's been in my fingers and hands a lot this weekend, so not doing any hand work. Just taking it easy and watching 'Ghost Hunters' dvd.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-12816435395801861352010-02-22T06:12:00.000-08:002010-02-22T06:12:03.711-08:00Have I been away for a month?I didn't realize it's been a month since I've posted. This has been a stressful month for us here, so I haven't really felt like saying much. We have been in the military for almost 22 years now and had planned on being in for 26 years. It seems the military just made some changes and now we have to retire at 24 years. So we now have a little over 2 years left in the service before we retire. That still gives us some time to plan some more, but we had put in an extension to stay in Germany for another year. With that extension in place, we would have had less than a year left when we leave Germany. Unfortunately, the military won't move you, unless you have a year left. So we've been worried that we would be here til we retire. DH has been on the phone, trying to figure out what we can do with all of these changes that have been thrown on us. Luckily, we just found out that we got our extension canceled and will be leaving here this year. We have a weight lifted off our shoulders now that we have an idea of what's happening. We still won't know where we will go next until probably in April. We are hoping for SouthEast, as we are originally from TN and would like to be near home as we get closer to retirement.

I'm going to be spending some time working on the house and getting rid of things that we don't want to take with us. Plus start doing some of the cleaning, etc. Sort of like a Spring Cleaning. I've got loads of quilt books and things that I want to list to sell and lots of things that we don't want to take with us. Sort of like, if you don't love it and it doesn't bring you happiness, lose it. *S*

I've also been thinking about my projects and what I might want to work on this year. I will post about that in another post, hopefully, with pics too. I just wanted to let everyone know what's been up with me.

Yea! Those are few and far between for me. I always seem to have trouble doing the finishing on any project that I start. I can get the quilt tops done, but not quilted. Once they are quilted (I have 3 quilted tops that my friend Mary of Quilt Hollow quilted), I have trouble getting the binding sewn on. I have multiple cross stitched pieces ready to frame and rugs to be bound. How do you get to that last little thing to get them completed? This I have to work on. So I completed my snowman hooked rug. I got my yarn out and whipped the binding edge and it's done.
I've been seeing so many blogs with Schibbles patterns by Miss Rosie's Quilt Co. and they look like so much fun. My friend, Mary, sent me one of the patterns to get me started. I had some charm sqaures already and found a set that I had double of. So I started the Hot Cross Buns Schnibbles pattern. It's been fun!

Above, I have them laid out ready to sew the blocks together for the center. I've been working on it this morning and have my center sewn together now. Just started cutting out the borders now. One tip, don't bother with washing those charms. I've had these charms for so long and I made the mistake of washing them when I first got them. Now I'm scrambling with some of them to make sure that I can get what I need out of them since they shrank a bit. Lesson Learned! I can't wait to get some more Schnibbles patterns and some more charms. This is quick and fun!

As for my UFO, since I was cutting strips out of stash, I pulled a tote down that had some cut already. This happened to be pieces that I had cut for a scrap basket quilt out of one of Blackbird Designs books. So I started sewing them together. I have the 4 patches done, which are a start of the basket block. I'll share more of them as they grown.

Just look at those scissors with my 4 patches. I just got those in and love them! I've seen them on lots of cross stitch patterns by Stacy Nash and always wanted a pair. I was searching around on primitive websites and came across these. I just had to order right away. Aren't they adorable!
I can't believe we are already in 2010! Time just seems to be flying these days. Well, I hope to get more things done this year than I did last year. I don't have much to show for this past year, as I was in a slump with my hobbies. Now that I'm back in the saddle again, I've been playing in my sewing room a bit. I had to organize it again and get things out of it, as it became a catch all this past year. I've got my cutting table all cleared off and started cutting strips. I pulled a book out by Kim Diehl and decided on what size strips to cut. So my drawers are almost full with strips. I started out cleaning out my scrap basket and then went to my stash. I decided to take the smaller pieces and some that had been in my stash for awhile and cut into strips.

Since it's been so long since I have had any new fabric stash, I ordered some. It's here and it's gorgeous! It's Jo Morton fabric. I pulled out some UFO's and one of them is a Jo Morton pattern. I almost cut some of my Jo Morton fabric up for strips, but then realized that I needed some of it for a UFO that I had started. Well, I didn't pull the fabrics that I had used so far out and put with it, so now I'm a bit low a couple of colors. That is what the reds are in this pic, but not sure if they will be the right color of reds to go with the older Jo Morton fabric that I used. I may just take the one applique block that I have done and make it into a wall hanging.

Another new thing I got is a new printer. I've been wanting a wireless printer for awhile now and I decided it was time. I loved my other printer, but can't find the ink on base here. I found it downtown, but with the Euro to Dollar exchange rate, it was too much. I just got it set up and printed some things out today.
I received a wonderful package from my friend, Mary of Quilt Hollow. She sent me a charm pack of Frosted Memories by Holly Taylor. I love it! I've been wanting to do something with Christmas fabrics and this is perfect. After starting to decorate for Christmas, I realized that I don't have any Christmas Quilts. I have lots of Fall colored quilts, but nothing to use for my Christmas Decor. I'm on the lookout for some simple patterns using charm packs, jelly rolls, etc. So if anyone has any recommendations, please let me know. Mary had the charm pack all wrapped up with white fabric tied with a green ribbon. Now there is another idea for using some of my stash. She also sent the cute snowman card with a package of Cinnamon Spice Tea. Thank You, Mary, for the wonderful package and for thinking of me.
Here is a wonderful Rocking Reindeer that I just got. I usually look for Santa's each year, but when I saw this reindeer, I just had to have him. I also bought the 3 ornaments in front of him. They were just too gorgeous to pass up.
This is my kitchen window. The Candle holders were a gift from my Brother and Sister-In-Law a few years ago. The Santa coffee pot is my favorite. I found it a few years ago and love him. The Gingerbread teapot is a gift from my Cousin and I have a matching plate that my Mother sent me.

That's what I've done so far. We have to get our tree up still. I was afraid to put it up too early with having a puppy in the house and kitten in the house. We'll get that up this weekend. Doug and I have his Squadron Christmas Party tonight at a hotel in Bitburg. We have our neighbor watching the kids for the night, so we got a room at the hotel for after the party.

I hope everyone has a Wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year! I'm going to start making some plans for things for the New Year and see if I can get more projects done in 2010.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-53028381930642888622009-12-03T11:59:00.000-08:002009-12-03T11:59:00.506-08:00Happy Birthday to my oldest!

Today, my oldest turned 12! Eek, where did the time go. One more year and he will be a teenager. He won't have his party til Saturday, but asked if he could open one present today. He could barely wait til his Dad got home. He also asked for a Red Velvet Cake for today. Well, I got the cake done, but didn't have enough of the powdered sugar to make the icing. So we wait til tomorrow and I'll get the icing done. He will also have a Birthday cake for his party, but the Red Velvet is for us here at home. This is the latest pic I have of him. He usually hides when the camera comes out. I had to snap this one quick. He's heading to the bus stop for school. The only other pic, I got that morning, had his binder covering his face. He gets that from me!

I've started hearing my projects calling to me again. So I hope to have something crafty to share soon. I've also started decorating for Christmas. It's still a WIP, but once I get my totes from the garage, I can finish up the decorating.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-51238297537979213152009-09-14T07:35:00.000-07:002009-09-14T08:17:39.661-07:00What a rough week last week was....First, I went shopping in Trier with a neighbor. We had a good time until the last shop we went into. I paid for my items and put my wallet in my purse and left. Only to get to the next place to get a pastry and found my wallet was gone. Yes, I got pick pocketed! I've been to many places in Europe and the States with no problem. We went back to the shop and asked them and they remember me putting it into my purse, as do I. When we started leaving the shop, which is a narrow home decor shop, there was a couple that split up around me. The Husband was walking ever so slowly in front of my and the wife was behind me. I had bought some long leaves, which were wrapped in plastic for a vase, and had them in my hands trying to make sure to not break anything or hit anyone. It was only about 5-10 minutes later that my wallet was gone. So now, I'm having the fun of waiting for new cards, id, licence, etc.

Next thing was Kindergarten started on Tuesday for my youngest, Thomas. Got him on the bus and came in to get to work. Tried to vacuum the den and pulled my back. So for the past week, I've been laying on a heating pad to get my back better. I had so many plans for the week to get done while being home by myself. Nada got done.

Needless to say, nothing quilting, knitting, or fun to post pics of. I will hopefully get to things this week. Let's hope it's a better week.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-11882748291419126572009-09-01T05:18:00.001-07:002009-09-01T05:32:46.483-07:00What I have been spending my time on..This summer has been spent with kids outside mostly AND we added 2 new members to our family. Meet Dante (Golden Retriever) and Sam (Cat). This is when we first got them and believe me, they both have grown so much already. Dante is pretty much house trained now. He was pretty easy, so far. They both play together and keep each other on their toes.

Now that school has started back (Yea!), I'm planning on getting back to my projects. My little guy (Thomas) start Kindergarten next week. So for the first time in a long time, I will be by myself during the day. What will I do? Well, I have alot of decluttering to do in the house, plus I want to get back to my many projects.

I haven't quilted in awhile, and I have quite a few things kitted up to do. So I want to get to those and get those done. Then I want to work on my stash a bit and use some of it up. This is so that I can not feel guilty when I see all of the new fabrics coming out and want them. I also have some cross stitch projects to get to, as well as a hooked rug that I started the beginning of this year. Not to mention the sweaters that I bought yarn for. I figure I might get half of the things done this school year. (fingers crossed)

I'm going to start my list of things to work on soon and can't wait to jump back in to my projects.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-27057627632631302622009-08-09T00:39:00.000-07:002009-08-09T00:54:59.641-07:00Internet WoesIt's been a long time since my last post. I've been having lots of trouble with my internet connection and couldn't even get into my google mail or yahoo mail. Each time, it said due to my slow connection that it wouldn't open. Occasionally, it would open, but when you clicked on an email to open and read, it would just spin and give an error message regarding our connection. I got so frustrated and felt really cut off from the world. Isn't it amazing how you feel that way when you have no internet? Our tv has also been on the fritz, but we would rather do without tv than internet. I called our internet provider over here, TKS, for support. I think the guy didn't want to work or something that day, cause he didn't even try to help me. He told me that I would need to send them an email asking to upgrade our internet service to a faster speed. We have no faster speed where we are, I've checked. We pay for 1000 speed, but only get about 300+. They have 2000 and 6000 speed, but not in our village. This is one thing I won't miss when we leave here.

Another thing that I have had problems with is posting comments to others blogs. I would type in a comment and then it would just sit there and spin. Also, for awhile, it wouldn't let me choose which profile I had for telling who I am. I finally got it once to let me do that. So I hope that's worked itself out.

Sorry, no pics this time, just wanted let you know why I've not been blogging lately. Oh, on another note, DH put in asking for an extension here and it got approved, so we will be here for an extra year now. Just hope my internet gets better during the next 2 years.

I will get some pics out and tell you some more of my recent adventures for my next post.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-62452340593877451482009-06-05T00:46:00.000-07:002009-06-05T01:18:25.991-07:00A Little Decorating
I, finally, got the chance to play around with my Dining Room Cabinet. I put up one of Jo's Little Women Club quilts that I made. It's Jo's Calicoes Surprise and is now in her book 'Yesterday's Charm'. I just got in this book and also her latest book, 'Vintage Journey'. Both books have some of her earlier Little Women club patterns in them. Found quite a few that I would like to do when I get back to my sewing room.

It's been warmer here, so I've been out more than in. I've also done a little more shopping with neighbors, so I am behind on housework. Oops, the dreaded H word. Next week is the last week of school, so the house will be even worse then. I figure while we have sun out, I'll be out with the kids and worry about major cleaning when school starts back. My little guy goes to Kindergarten in the coming school year, so I'll have more time to myself to clean and quilt! Yippee! Just a few months away.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-34107271083745909702009-05-20T23:55:00.001-07:002009-05-21T00:14:53.557-07:00Show n TellI promised that I would show some of my quilts soon. I've been trying to do a little on my blog, but blogger has just sat and spinned for me the past few days. I think it has more to do with our location than blogger though, as our internet does that quite often.

Here are a couple of quilts that old to me, but new to you. The first one I made when we were stationed in Germany the first time. I used a fabric line by Robyn Pandolph and the pattern was in an old issue of Australian Patchwork & Quilting. Sorry, I can't remember the names as it's been a few years. While at Ramstein, we had a lady to join our guild who was a long arm quilter. So I had her to quilt this one for me. I've since sent it to my Mom and Dad to have.

This next one is a Thimbleberrie pattern. It was a fun quilt to make. While we were stationed in California, I joined a guild there. I met a wonderful lady, Diane, who had started the guild and she and I became friends. She had a long arm and told me to bring a quilt up to play on the machine. She helped me to quilt this one and it was fun playing on that long arm. She kept telling me to relax my arm. *LOL* I kept raising it up higher and higher, so she would remind me. Think I should have had a glass of wine before starting to loosen up. *S*

Here is a close up of the quilting.

I will share more another day. We spent the day in Trier and had a fun time. I bought some goodies for the house. I've been hung up on birds lately and was on the lookout for an iron bird. I didn't find one, but found some made of stone. I also found this wonderful bird bath for sitting on a shelf or window ledge. I haven't decided on which yet. It was on sale for 5 Euro's!

Next I found this wonderful jar with an iron top on it. I can't figure out what to put in it, so any ideas would be appreciated. I just loved it and had to bring it home with me. Not sure if you can see the iron ring of keys in the lower left corner, but had to have those too. Now the iron basket in back is one that I have had for awhile. I just haven't figured out what to put in it or how to use it. So again, I would love some ideas.

Here is a gorgeous Iron Water Feature in the Walkplatz of Trier. I was thinking, Gee, I haven't posted to my blog in awhile. So I run downstairs to take a pic of my fabric stash and a backing that I have been working on. DH calls to tell me that gas will be going up .18 tomorrow and I should go fill the car up. So out the door the little guy and I go. Get back home and check Google Blog and there I see a quilt of mine. *S* My friend Mary at Quilt Hollow has posted to introduce my blog to her blogging friends. *S* Mary is the one that got me to start blogging a short while ago. She and I must have been sending vibes to each other, over the pond, to remind me to post. *S* Below is my fabric stash, although it's not all of it. This is just my favorites. I still have 1 or 2 totes full of fabrics that I bought over the years and aren't really what I want to use.

Just last weekend, I sent a couple of quilt tops to Mary to do her magic on. I still have 2 more that I am piecing backings for. While working on these backs, I've pulled out of my stash of older fabrics and some from the same lines that are in the tops. I noticed that some of my pieces of fabrics now have fold lines in them that are a bit lighter. So now, I'm determined to use up some of my stash and not let this happen again. Let this be a warning to you, either use it up, or re-fold from time to time. I went on and used a piece with those fold lines and figure that will be my humble part of this quilt and, also, a reminder to use up the stash. See the fabric in the lower right hand side. That's the lighter fold lines.

After I get these 2 backings done, I'm going to start cutting strips from my stash for a Lady of the Lake Quilt. I found the perfect border fabric in my stash and I used EQ software to design it out to see if I have enough. The blocks will be set on point and the border fabric will be the corner and side triangles. The fabric below is the border fabric that I chose. I'll get to that for my next post.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-13929553126194851712009-04-30T02:27:00.000-07:002009-04-30T02:49:16.877-07:00Quilt Tops and BackingsThat is what I'm thinking about this week. I am getting some quilts ready to send out to my Dear Friend Mary at Quilt Hollow. Mary and I met when we were stationed at Ramstein AFB in Germany years ago. She has been sharing some of her quilts that she has quilted on her Long Arm and has done some gorgeous things. The first quilt is a civil war quilt that I made to fit a Queen bed. I've been trying to figure out how to go about quilting it for a long time. I just didn't want to try to fight that much fabric on my little machine. I was so excited when Mary got her machine, as now I can pass them to her to do her magic on them. The next quilt is an applique quilt by Pat Sloan called 'Mama's Garden'. I did hand applique on this quilt while we were stationed at Ramstein. I put in alot of hours at our quilds 'Stitch N Gab'. Man, how I miss those Friday Night Stitch n Gabs.Another quilt that I'm sending to her is 'Sunshine on my Shoulders', which was a Jan Patek Girl Gang quilt designed by Cheri Ralston. I love Cheri's designs and have her book waiting for me to make some more of her designs.
I am also sending her my Millineum Garden that was featured in my last post. I can't wait to see what Mary comes up with for quilting these quilts. Since I now don't feel like I have a stack of quilts sitting there waiting for me to do something else with them, it's making me want to start some more quilts! Yippee!! I have some in mind and will post about them in a future post.

Now for backings for these quilts. I had some backing fabric that I bought years ago and it's a perfect it for my civil war quilt. So it is trimmed up and ironed, waiting to be packed up to send. The other quilts will need a backing made for them. So I've gone into my stash and pulled out any leftovers of fabrics used in the tops. I will just put them all together to make an interesting background, while using up some stash in the process. Another Yippee!Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-885541764816922117.post-86137637760371587662009-04-27T07:47:00.001-07:002009-04-27T07:50:43.303-07:00Millenium Garden

Millenium Garden
Originally uploaded by WoolieChelle
It's been a week since I've posted, so I thought I'd share a pic of a quilt top waiting to be quilted. This is Millenium Garden BOM by Jan Patek. When I first learned to hand applique, the lady who taught me was working on this quilt. She had ordered it when it first came out as a BOM. I fell in love with it and had always wanted to make it. Years later, an online friend was done with her patterns and passed them on to me. So I jumped in and started my own. I used IMA (invisible machine applique) on my Millenium Garden and I love it. It's in my pile of tops waiting to be quilted at the moment.Chelle (Dana)http://www.blogger.com/profile/18077413782412861548noreply@blogger.com6
